There are three essential requirements to ensure that employees can successfully combine work and breastfeed:

Time: Allow employees sufficient break time to pump, or provide flexible work hours.

Space: Designate a private, clean space to breastfeed or pump; space should have a comfortable chair, and an electrical outlet at the minimum. Some lactation rooms also include a hand washing sink, a small refrigerator, and a foot rest.

Support: Have a written policy that is communicated to all staff to ensure that staff are supportive of breastfeeding moms.
